Plague Journal, Wilding
I am numb after viewing the rampage of thousands of Trumpers around and inside of the Capitol building yesterday. A mob of thousands gathered from throughout the country, listened to their revered leader Trump instruct them to storm the Capitol. They proceeded accordingly. It is beyond belief this was a spur of the moment decision. Such an act is so momentous, an act of insurrection that it would not have been done lightly, on a whim.
The forced entry into the capitol, the rampage through the halls of congress, and the trashing of the floor of congress was a repudiation of a society of laws, of this society at any rate.
This is America, with it’s Fox News, the propaganda networks such as Newsmax TV and One America News Network live, — the fact free zone where conspiracies and hate are nurtured on demand.
It is possible that a civil society will comeback from this? As Nietzsche observed it is impossible to move crablike, sideways, or backwards,– by necessity we move forward. A point not to be lost is that there are few facts anymore, only interpretations. Facts are simply agreed upon interpretations. We Americans agree upon very little any more.
Here is a song to hold on to, to get us through.
“Angel” is a song by Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan. The lyrics are about the death of Jonathan Melvoin (1961–1996), the Smashing Pumpkins’ touring keyboard player.
It was inspired by articles that she read in Rolling Stone about musicians turning to heroin to cope with the pressures of the music industry and subsequently overdosing. She said that she identified with the feelings that might lead someone to use heroin. — Wikipedia
As a society, we are dying from an overdose of many things. The lyric is a prayer for a release from the wreckage which we have created.
There’s vultures and thieves at your back
And the storm keeps on twisting
You keep on building the lie
That you make up for all that you lack
It don’t make no difference
Escaping one last time
It’s easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
This glorious sadness that brings me to my knees

Sarah McLachlan is a longtime favorite of mine! Thank you for your perspective…always measured. It still amazes me how many American’s support this President.
Seems to me that everyone that is significantly racist, will feel simpatico with the President. He needs to be removed from office, now.
Gail is a dear friend; as is Roger. I’m registering to receive your posts and will attempt to friend and follow you on Social Media. I hear good things. Perhaps when the pandemic ceases to rage and social gatherings can commence again, we will meet.
Cynthia, looking forward to meeting you! – Jerry
