Plague Journal, Attempted Murder
Still reeling from the events of Wednesday. An armed mob, incited by the President of the United States, stormed the Capitol, roamed the halls of Congress, looting and posing for selfies with police officers. This was the attempted murder of our democracy. Not simply a lunatic fringe, a few extremists getting out of hand, — thousands of people came to Washington persuaded by the lies of the President’s peripatetic mouthpiece Rudi Giuliani, by the lies of Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, and by the lies of Josh Hawley of Missouri, that the election of Joe Biden as the next President of the United States was fraudulent. The mob stormed congress in order to disrupt the counting of the ballots received from the States. Elected representatives had to be evacuated to preserve their safety from this armed mob. To my eye the scene unfolded with the acquiescence of law enforcement.
The incursion into the Capitol building demands a forthright response. This was an act of insurrection by every person that unlawfully penetrated the police barriers onto the Capitol precincts. Every individual identified on video, who was present inside the Capitol must be charged with sedition, and summarily arrested to stand trial. A felony charge and several years of jail time seems reasonable in the light of what they attempted.
I mean to say that no one, — no President, and no elected Representative can be exempt from the charge of treasonable activity. The attempted murder of our democracy will not be stymied by a faux restoration of civility and pleas for bipartisanship.
We must excise this cancer. Start at the bottom and work our way up.

I fear he isn’t going anywhere until the 20th.
Someone please remind me the author of the following, most apropos words –
“Treason doth never prosper , what’s the reason?
For if it prospers, non dare call it treason”. (Sounds like J.S.Mill, but I can’t be certain).
Blessings
Al, the future cannot be foretold for good reason. It is we who fashion what is to come, as agents in the present. We may lose this republic, but I would like to think that it was lost because we acted, doing our best to cauterize the poison of insurrection, and failed, — than we failed because we did nothing. “Wait and see” if he leaves, is a do-nothing strategy.
Again, he isn’t going anywhere until the 20th. Why? Because we are looking at two sides of the same coin. Admittedly though, that mutt is an aberration. Still, we can’t have too much justice. Who knows, we might get to expect it.
