Plague Journal, Warming & Freezing To Death
What is there to say this morning… It is zero degree Fahrenheit at 7AM. According to the forecast the rest of the week is to feature temps around zero. This is the Midwest, not a polar zone, so very little moves outside in these conditions. Exposure is dangerous. We misunderstand global warming. Weather extremes are the consequence; too much of everything which Nature typically offers in semi-predicable moderation. A warming earth means greater intensity of deluge and drought, blazing (literally) heat and subzero envelopment, all of this occurring in the wrong places, to make things even worse. Hang on.
I checked the Kane county website last night for vaccine availability. There was none. The pandemic is currently the primary impediment to freedom of movement. Why risk serious illness by thirty minutes of pleasant association with your neighbors dining at a restaurant? That seems a losing proposition for everyone. Even a favorite restaurant stands to indefinitely lose a customer, if I should be taken out by the coronavirus.
The Saturday scene of the republican members of the Senate passing an acquittal verdict on the former president still echos in my mind. It is clear republicans are not worried about holding their jobs tomorrow. In plain language, we stand in danger of being governed by a white-cracker-minority party with a base in sparsely populated states with a rural population. What to do? 1. Get rid now, of the filibuster rule in the Senate. 2. Pray.
There’s always music. It is likely that I have little to say of importance or of interest. A readers time will be redeemed by listening to a song, by the beneficent harmony of musicians, by the painstaking craft of a lyricist, — making the visit to one of these posts worthwhile.
I offer this tune for our instruction, and restoration. I heard it for the first time on the radio several days ago. Officer Of love by Caamp. Yes, that is the correct spelling of name of the band. Making the aural effect of the tune even better is the superlative visual of the youtube video. I am tempted to go on at length about the lyric and video. Perhaps that will be for another day.
Enjoy!
Officer Of Love
By Caamp
Baby blue bandana drives by in a pickup truck
Got a white stripe right down her side, tires on the mud
She is an officer of love and I’ll obey her every word
She is an officer of love and I’ll obey her every word
Stand up on my shoulders
And tell me darling, what can you see?
Ten thousand holy rollers
Goin’ to battle, cigarettes tucked up in their sleeves, oh
Oh oh
She is an officer of love and I’ll obey her every word
She is an officer of love and I’ll obey her every word
We take our lovin’ on the run, quite seriously
I’m wonderin’ if she’s got a gun, hidden up her sleeve
Now stand up on my shoulders
And tell me honey, what can you see?
Ten thousand holy rollers
Goin’ to battle, plain white tees, oh
Oh oh
She is an officer of love and I’ll obey her every word
She is an officer of love and I’ll obey her every word
She is an officer of love and I’ll obey her every word
She is an officer of love and I’ll obey her every word
Every word, every word, start a fire
Baby blue
Baby blue…
