Plague Journal, What Is Coming

Plague Journal, What Is Coming

Difficult to write this morning. The weather is forecast to warm in a day or so in Illinois. We have had a week of single digit temps, which is not unusual for winter in the Midwest.

In Texas, they have been besieged with severely below normal temps, and ice storms with snow. Power failure has gripped much of the state. But worse, Governor Gregg Abbott took to Fox News to blame the green renewables industry for the deep freeze felt by many Texans shivering in their homes. There stands to be a continued onslaught of lies and misinformation on Fox News propaganda channel. Wind power makes us only 7 percent of Texas power generation. Not enough to collapse much of the power grid.

I am not a resident of Texas. However global warming, and severe weather events will continue to affect all of us. We are better served, are more likely to survive what is coming by telling the truth.

Lies are impotent to negate a force that our ancestors attributed to the gods.

Indeed. If only it was just global warming. I can think of at least 10trends descending on us that portend difficult days ahead.

Yes. Hang on and learn… We are not going to manage/engineer our way our of the thicket of natural and human crises that loom on our horizon.

I would like to believe that I am immune to “too much” bad news, that somehow by remaining aware of the cycles of the daily events that shape our lives and our culture, I might be able to help formulate a solution. Of course this attitude is narcissism to the nth degree. I can no more hold Greg Abbott to account for his insidious lies than I can walk to the moon.

So when does one “Say Uncle? When do we turn off the television or unsubscribe to the newspaper or switch off the radio? Is there an apex we reach that calls for the eschewing of the world “out there” and where we reach for the survival of the ID, our one body that is our only vessel which can ferry us through life?

It is difficult to ignore the plights of others. For those of us who do read the news and feel the pangs of pain experienced by the suffering of millions of souls, can we truly turn away? I don’t have a definitive answer, but I do know that the tsunami of ignorance flooding the world right now is enough to sicken the hardiest of folks.

Lately I find myself on the edge. Each day that I read about the Ted Cruz’s of the world or any of the other hundreds of thousands of two-faced lying bastard hypocrites, I want to find that plot of land on an island somewhere, tend my vegetable garden, have wonderful conversations about the stars with friends, and role up into a ball when my time comes. Will I turn in that direction? I don’t know. Time will tell.

    oh well.

I know how you feel. If I could get away with it, I’d advocate declaring that Texas be declared “Abbottsville” and going forward we regard Texans as another foreign nation with whom we have relations to the extent possible. That is my fantasy. We cannot ignore others and their behavior. Apart from reasons of decency, we share the same earth, air, and water and thus the same fate. We must care for self-interested reasons. This also entails describing accurately the behavior of others: lying bastard hypocrites indeed.
