We Don’t Make The Rules
Yesterday I noticed this sign while stopping at a Starbucks. I felt excited at the “sign” of sanity, a public display of reason in a time of covid. Why in the name of humanity should we sacrifice lives, and “sacrifice” is the only word to use. What of this childish desire to assert “freedom” to enter a place of business unmasked and unvaccinated? This will to immaturity has nothing to do with The Constitution. The Constitution does not grant freedom to put your neighbors in jeopardy, to hazard others with serious illness who happen to share a room with you.
If this is the place we have come to as a society, The Constitution is something we will do without. In the big picture, the larger evolutionary scheme of things, survival is what matters.
I asked a barista if she received negative feedback. She replied she tells those patrons, “I don’t make the rules.”
I thought to myself, — ‘That’s perfect.’ It is not up to us, to any of us to make the rules if we want to survive.
Nature makes the rule.
