Monday morning, the Russian assault on Kyiv continues.  Ukrainian resistance has been fierce, the intended lightning quick investment of the capital city bogged down.  The Russians have sufficient armor, artillery and infantry to squeeze the outnumbered defenders.  Infrastructure is destroyed in the course of the shelling, rocket attacks, the street fighting.

There is a time that offering a prayer on behalf of the defenders of Ukraine’s cities seems the appropriate act.  Prayer is a sacrifice of attention, a recognition that the fate of Ukraine is outside of the control of any nation, and certainly of any individual.  The lives of many hang in the balance now.  It matters not in the least, to whose deity the urgent request is directed.
