Rome, Is It Burning?
Vacation for me, for our tribe is a place and time apart from the usual day to day responsibilities, from news of national, even far flung happenings, — a bubble of blessed separation. Not that our lives are terrible, we do not live in a war zone, or conditions of extremity. Nevertheless it is refreshing to awaken, not sure whether it is Friday or Saturday, anticipating breakfast, a scavenger hunt and the rest of the day — lounging by Lake Michigan.
For the interlude we’d be oblivious if Rome were to burn. Washington, Chicago, Kiev, London, Paris all seem to be on another planet, rather than next door. What a strange time that we live.
Here are some photos of interesting objects discovered by the lake.
