Glum Evocation Of Happiness
A gray Monday. There are apt to be many of these as the winter solstice is ahead, December 21st. Spring, why that’s just an idea… The idea is one of hope nevertheless. Just this morning I received an emailed advertisement announcing Summerfest 2023. James Taylor is to be one of the headliner performers. Count me in! Music = new life.
Sunday afternoon present with most of my immediate family members for the holiday concert performance by the Fox Valley Festival Chorus, in the sanctuary of St. Marks Lutheran Church in Aurora. The concert was a visual and aural feast. To conclude the presentation we all stood in unison, once again in abject wonder for the performance of Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus. I’m still moved, even if I cannot take as factual the description of God’s eternal reign: “King of kings and Lord of lords, etc..” Music bypasses the mind, touches the soul, — that animal part of us.
Another occurrence of atrial flutter last night… The heart rate of 140 beats per minute resolved itself after some time of waiting quietly. There are times when “the right thing to do,” is to do nothing. At other times doing nothing is “the end.” How to be certain of what to do?
I can’t. Certainty is not possible.
What tune do I offer for this day? I Believe In You was written by Neil Young. Here the tune is magnificently covered by Linda Ronstadt.
I Believe In You
By Linda Ronstadt
Now that you found yourself
losing your mind
Are you here again?
Finding that what you once
thought was real
Is gone, and changing?
Now that you made yourself
love me
Do you think
I can change it in a day?
How can I place you above me?
Am I lying to you when I say
That I believe in you
I believe in you.
Coming to you at night
I see my questions
I feel my doubts
Wishing that maybe
in a year or two
We could laugh
and let it all out
Now that you made
yourself love me
Do you think
I can change it in a day?
How can I place you above me?
Am I lying to you when I say
That I believe in you
I believe in you.
Lyrics by Neil Young
