There Is No Wall
Chance for the individual is “communication,”
the loss of one individual in another.
“Communication” is the “duration of loss.”
Will I in the end find a joyful, rather mad way of speaking
–and the analytic subtlety —
to recount the dance around time?*
With the spite and obstinacy of a fly,
I say insistently: there is no wall
between eroticism and mysticism!
It’s ultimately comical, they use the same words,
traffic in the same images, and ignore it!
–excerpt On Nietzsche by Georges Bataille, trans. by Stuart Kendall, p. 133
*(Zarathustra, In Search of Lost Time)
Absolutely delightful, this comparison between “dropping over the edge,” chance of misunderstanding, the risk that partners in dialogue experience in order to grasp the meaning offered by words, which by their natures are ambiguous, subject to interpretation according to various contexts, and … with the erotic: that joyful, mad, and delicate adventure of lovemaking. Extending the point further along a continuum which ordinarily wouldn’t come to mind: to mystical experience.
Now that you mention it. a superb experience of making love defies description, is none other than mystical… You and your partner cannot help but laugh-out-loud!
More need not be said.
