I Won’t Be Afraid

I Won’t Be Afraid

I have a fortunate life.  You do as well, if you are reading this.  To be homo sapiens is particularly difficult.  Literature expresses our dilemma sometimes subtly and sometimes with a raw edge.  The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus comes to mind.

The rendition of this tune, and the video is an expression with a serrated edge.  Some elements of the video that speak to me are: The glittering, jewel-like night image of a city, – awe inspiring at a distance.  Momentarily one forgets the grime of the streets, and the violence that building a city requires.  The vintage Dodge RT is the icon of American auto industries halcyon days.  The mighty Chrysler hemi motor was the epitome of Detroit’s uncontested dominance.  The male and female, are running from circumstances, escaping what they have done.  The male appears unwell, suddenly vomits blood.  His head slumps to the side.  He is unconscious.  The female recognizes the flashing lights of the police roadblock ahead.  Instinctively she reaches for the 9mm semi-automatic pistol on the console…

The conclusion of this tale is not what you will anticipate.  Be warned.

It is difficult to be human.  At times the sky does fall, the mountain crumbles to the sea…

Stand By Me

By Ki: Theory

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we’ll see
No, I won’t be afraid
Oh, I won’t be afraid
Just as long as you stand
Stand by me

So darlin’, darlin’
Stand by me, oh, stand by me
Oh, stand, stand by me
Stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
Or the mountain should crumble to the sea
I won’t cry, I won’t cry
No, I won’t shed a tear
Just as long as you stand
Stand by me

And darlin’, darlin’
Stand by me, oh, stand by me
Oh, stand now, stand by me
Stand by me

Darlin’, darlin’
Stand by me, oh, stand by me
Oh, stand now, stand by me
Stand by me
Whenever you’re in trouble
Won’t you stand by me?
Oh, stand by me
Won’t you stand now?
Oh, stand, stand by me

Lyrics by Mike Stoller, Jerry Leiber, Ben King
