Not Just Another Day
Another day, and yet not just ‘another’ day. There has never been, or can there ever be a segment of space and time that mirrors, replicates this one. The “eternal return” as a rule-of-thumb is a safe bet. Patterns become familiar. We’ve seen them before. Would we expect anything else? Matter and the personalities of every thing that lives are channeled by precursor events, the dance and friction of energy, top to bottom. Patterns repeat, but … the detail is as unique as a razor’s edge.
Christmas eve, and the morning after is a recurrent pattern which we anticipate in the middle of the week ahead. The Christmas celebration stands in sharp relief to the Trumpcalypse that threatens. That 77 million Americans cast a ballot, personally choosing this bully to be CEO of the nation is mind numbing. Another pattern that has been seen before. The autocratic bully is energized by the suffering of others. Yet, life moves on as do we, who stand in opposition to him.
I offer thoughts pertinent to our duty to ourselves, to those we love, to the earth that is our home. It is by cultivating our noble and excellent desires, that we make them come true. These capture my mind and heart:
- To seek beguiling riddles and enchanting challenges to excite my mind and heart.
- To attract encounters with evocative, nonstandard beauty, so that a part of me will remain untamed.
- To seek allies who share and enjoy distinctive idiosyncrasies and eccentricities.
- To create a world in which everyone gets the food, shelter, and health care they need, including mental health.
- To engage in group collaborations that enhances everyone’s intelligence.
- To keep outgrowing what worked in the past. The cosmos is change, at every level is alive. New approaches to being myself are reasonable.
- To protect the health and beauty of the natural world.
- To seek experiences that steer me away from thinking and acting like the machines I use so much.
- To move my body in ways that delight my soul.
- To help extinguish, bigotry, misogyny, plutocracy, racism, and militarism.
