Interlude
We are enjoying a break in the late Fall chill in the Mid-West. Today I worked outside for a few hours, enjoying the freedom of working without cumbersome gloves, wearing a light jacket. The session of work was made all the more agreeable thanks to good company. Scott and I ranged from discussing our President, to an exchange of theological opinion. Certainly good words function as a lubricant to ease the friction that inevitably comes with work.
I arrived late in the afternoon here at Starbucks. Chris gave me a hearty greeting, and served up my coffee and brownie. I settled in to continue my reading of the Gospel of John. Do we not underestimate how a simple positive word of greeting reaches the heart of another?
Read John chapters 5 through 8. Jesus is presented as a kick-ass Buddha. He is depicted as delivering dharma talks in various situations, which provoke extreme responses. It is unclear that anyone “gets him.” His outrageous claims provoke reactions of anger, confusion, and some nearly resort to physical violence..
What a Christ-mas story is this?!
