The War Begins
The primary is over here in Illinois. The gubernatorial primary ended with the incumbent Governor Rauner victorious over Jeanne Ives. Ives, a West Point Graduate, a female-warrior, brought a warm, steely, fundamentalist authenticity to the camera. I liked her at a emotional level while being terrified of her intentions. Rauner on the other hand is the shape-shifting, tap dancing, don’t-need-to-get-anything-done, rich guy politician that he has proven himself to be as our Governor. Nothing new, just a promise of more wasting decline for everyone who lives in Illinois..
J.B. Pritzker is the victor on the Democratic side of the primary. Pritzker’s personality is likeable enough. He has the body language, corpulent, affable, that fits the visual image of a governor. He is quite rich enough to buy the office in the manner which is the norm in this post-modern century. I voted for him. I just think that the Democrats are less overtly and crassly pirate-tanical, than is the Republican Party. The decline is likely to be less violent, more incremental.
In any case, the big guns are in place, and the crews stand at the ready for the cannonade to begin. Media buys will fill the mental atmosphere of us common folk with the shrapnel of dark suggestions, innuendo, –hate speech, to soften us up for election day in November.

Interesting that you choose a Gov. who’s leadership will result in a less violent decline. I chose Ives because I hoped her violence would lead to success.
Ives communicated violence to me as well. Have you ever known violence to solve any problem? Violence is like war- only a last resort.
I don’t think physical violence is what she stood for. I do think she intended to bring political violence on those who have broken this state. That is how I saw it. If I thought she was going to kill people I would not have supported her. Now I’m left with our current governor to carry on. I doubt he will win.
There is a continuum between rhetorical/political violence, the emotional violence of ideologically driven propaganda, and concrete acts that injure, incarcerate and kill. The German people found this out the hard way. Ives has a “take no prisoners” attitude, adverse to compromise. I’m glad that she was not approved to represent the Republican Party.
