Best Years Come And Gone
Rain today. I am grateful for the rain. It has been six weeks with very little rain.
Last night I exchanged emails with a friend who expressed hatred for a group of people. i failed to persuade him that expressing hatred is unjustified as no individual has responsibility for who their parents happen to be or for how they were raised. That’s shear coincidence. That any of us are here at all is a throw of the dice. Had things been a bit different another sperm would have won the race to the egg. You wouldn’t be reading this. I would not be sitting here writing. Life is mainly coincidence. Hatred chokes off the possibility for grace filled outcomes, driving us into the dark side of our psyches.
Listened briefly to a report on NPR this morning about the consequences of the smoke lingering from the fires in California. For weeks the air has been smoke filled. Lingering respiratory problems are coming to light. Toxins are present in the smoke.
Report also came that the President by executive order has relaxed the clean air requirements for power plants. This comes at the expense of public health, though it will help the president in coal mining West Virginia. He is visiting West Virginia today.
I’ll end today’s post with another rock n roll tune. This one is about laughter, a sardonic, cruel laughter. This comes when one has imposed his will upon another like a curse upon his or her future prospects.
The song is by a Canadian band, The Guess Who from the late 60s.
