A Mind, Like Space
49
The Master has no mind of her own.
She works with the mind of the people.
She is good to people who are good.
She is also good to people who aren’t good.
This is true goodness.
She trusts people who are trustworthy.
She also trusts people who aren’t trustworthy.
This is true trust.
The Master’s mind is like space.
People don’t understand her.
They look to her and wait.
She treats them like her own children…
Tao Te Ching by Lao Tsu, trans. by Stephen Mitchell
Perhaps it will rain this morning. It is Saturday.
So, if the rain, which is always welcome, holds off, we will attend the Farmer’s Market on River Street in Batavia. We purchase a few items, and look for several individuals that we have become acquainted with over the past few months. Joshua and his family operate a farm in the Rockford area. His baked breads are superb. Apples will be available soon.
Nabor too is a new friend. He with his two partners own and operate El Taco Grande on River Street. Likely we will greet him and purchase a breakfast taco, which is scrambled eggs, chorizo, and diced onion in a taco. With a diet coke of course.
It is a pleasure to see these two. If circumstance allows, a moment is taken to swap a story that comes to mind. Isn’t this what we point to by “community”? Encounter and mutual telling. Life is story-friendly.
To become human: listen and tell your life to someone, to become friend, and to receive a friend!
Become like water in Oscar Monet’s garden.
