A Terrarium That You Live In
PERMACULTURE is the science and practice of creating living systems of nature (permanent agriculture).
In contrast to traditional agriculture, permaculture is characterized by:
FLOW MAINTENANCE: working with nature rather than against it,
ALL NATURAL: no artificial pesticides or fertilizer, and
ZERO WASTE: complete cycles of use/re-use.
The end result is abundance and health. Done right, there is more than enough food and habitat for people and animals. This comes from the principle that life creates more life; i.e, one does not have to work at it. The basic idea is to think of permaculture as a terrarium that you live in.

Yes, this is a radical idea, a intentional return to a mode of life known by our ancestors up to the recent past. The choice is clear to me. We continue our industrial factory farming, and mass production processes of producing goods. Or we dedicate our time and passion in favor of the earth, and the community of life, inclusive of all living things. The former choice requires little to no effort except ignorance and servitude to “the economy.” (ignorance and cheapness go together) The latter will fill our days with labor, learning, companionship with co-workers, and fulfillment of our appetite for beauty and meaning.
