Weekend Reflection
Thought
written, represented
is a passage through evil,
…the most profound way
of avoiding radical evil…
the stoppage of representation and questioning.

Saturday morning comes with brilliant sunlight and cold. The cold is reminder that winter remains, that springtime demands patience. Life requires patience as does thought. Thought requires a good measure of solitude for reflection, so that mind and body develops as a sense-making-tool apt for our survival. That’s how it is, at least one way of putting it. Survival.
Emerging from my house this morning, I caught sight of the Ukrainian flag that arrived yesterday. Ukraine is much on my mind. I will do everything within my power to show my support for their determination to remain free of Russian domination. The fighting continues today. The New York Times featured a photo of a Russian tank shell exploding into a high rise apartment building. The invading Russian army is massive. The size of the columns of armor and supply vehicles restricts maneuverability, an advantage to the Ukrainian soldiers bent on destroying as many as possible. My instinct tells me Putin is willing to absorb any number of losses to unconditionally subjugate the country. Of course the defenders know this. They persevere.
In thought as well as in war, to persevere is the right thing to do.
We must never be coerced, to stop questioning, forced to curtail our freedom of expression.
