Abide And Be
“When we say to one another,
‘I am this’, how do we know
that the ‘I’ is
the real ‘I’?
You dream that you are a bird
soaring into the sky;
you dream that you are a fish
diving into the deep.
We do not know whether we
who are now speaking
are awake or dreaming.
It is not seeing what is pleasurable
that produces the smile;
it is not the sudden smile
that produces the configuration
of a person.
When we abide in what has been arranged
and leave all thought of transformation,
we are at one
with the vast void of heaven.”
Zhuangzi by Zhuang Zhou trans. by Hyun Hochmann, Yang Guorong, The Great and Honored Teacher.
It is always tempting to say something more, to ‘explain’. Piling on, sometimes is just a pile.
The entire point is simply ‘abiding’.
The vast void/fate is our companion.
Time enough for a tune. This has been featured before. Still the lyric coincides with the words of Zhuang Zhou. The Killing Moon by Echo And The Bunnymen.
