Covid
“Good luck” lasts only so long. The smile of fortune is just that, — a smile. Nothing in this world lasts indefinitely.
I am contending with Covid. No need to describe the unpleasant fever and a cough. Many have been afflicted with the virus, and many have died.
Illness is an opportunity to consider one’s mortality. Knowing early in the course of the malady that one has a potential killer-virus, rather than just an inconsequential nasal drip, makes a big difference. Timely access to a doctor who can prescribe an anti-viral drug, also makes a difference. A safe place for rest makes a difference.
Each of these factors varies individual by individual. Will your employer allow you enough sick leave? Does one understand how serious Covid can be? Are you able to follow instructions for a home test? How convenient or inconvenient is one able to be examined by a doctor?
Pivot points potentially, for life-in-the-balance.
All is qualified by chance, unknowns that become clear only when one takes the backward look over the shoulder…
If you can think, you have problems: this is why there is philosophy.

When in the course of the pandemic one acquires the virus makes a difference too. in spring of 2020, we hid in the house watching the horror unfold on TV. Everyday the death toll counter spun faster then the day before. The stories presented were both heart breaking and terrifying. was it in the air? on the amazon package on the stoop? on the fruit in the grocery store someone picked up then decided to put back in the bin? was the person 2 1/2 feet behind you in line trying to kill you? It kind of reminds me of how I felt about AIDS when it first came out.
Looking back, I wish the pandemic had not been so politicized or sensationalized. Maybe we will be immune to that for next time.
Here’s hoping that your case is short lived with no lasting effects.
I agree. Those in the initial wave of a pandemic are at the mercy of nature. Without question it is fortunate to be ill later, when there are anti-viral meds that prevent the replication of the virus to shorten the recovery time. At best, life is short.
There is no help for the politicization and hyping of anything that affects us all. That is the nature of the time in which we live. Can we become immune? Time will tell. I do not know.
