Delight
Saturday. Another mild, sunny day at the end of November. Time for reflection upon the sumptuousness of Thanksgiving feast day, the glamor of a formal table, guests in their places, words spoken, and convivial conversation exchanged… Perhaps this seems idealistic, not exactly what you in fact experienced, this past Thursday, day before yesterday. Were you not delighted? No matter. Ideals escape all of us, “perfections” entertained by the mind — perhaps derived from memory of a time past.
Where is this leading? Pleasure is fulfillment, the experience of ourselves as more than we’ve ever been. That rarefied state of being comes in relationship to another person or persons. On those occasions, does not time “stand still?” Perhaps it was the manner your mother prepared the turkey, that savory flavor, a taste delight… Or perhaps your ideal has to do with the arrangement of the table in the room, the lighting, or the words spoken at inception of the meal…
Is it possible to make too much of those occasions of sensual delight? (This is a true/false question)
Thoughts?
Here is a tune for the day. The guitar chords are magnificent, a transport to bliss. Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top.
Sharp Dressed Man
By ZZ Top
Clean shirt, new shoes
And I don’t know where I am goin’ to
Silk suit, black tie
I don’t need a reason why
They come runnin’ just as fast as they can
‘Cause every girl’s crazy ’bout a sharp dressed man
Gold watch, diamond ring
I ain’t missin’ not a single thing
And cuff links, stick pin
When I step out I’m gonna do you in
They come runnin’ just as fast as they can
‘Cause every girl’s crazy ’bout a sharp dressed man
Top coat, top hat
I don’t worry ’cause my wallet’s fat
Black shades, white gloves
Lookin’ sharp and lookin’ for love
They come runnin’ just as fast as they can
‘Cause every girl’s crazy ’bout a sharp dressed man
Lyrics by Billy Gibbons, Joe Hill, Lee Beard Frank
