Eye To Eye

Yesterday, Memorial Day I went for an unplanned walk by the Fox River. Noting that the Creamery ice cream shop was crowded to capacity, a short walk along the river would allow families with children to be served. After my walk I would return for a scoop of chocolate ice cream.
The Fox River seems our timeless tether to the earth, and to past communities that once lived on the land where I live, Batavia. The river is a living link to all of the towns along the Fox River Valley.
The river walk path is adjacent to the Batavia government center. I gazed at these sublime artist renderings of the river-life that is ordinary, often observed by anyone who cares to notice, especially in the springtime. These photos are Art Of The Fox Mural Series, displayed on the wall of the Government Center. The art connects the viewer to the beauty and the diversity of the river. What is the role of homo sapiens in the larger scheme, in the big picture? Is it not to offer in celebratory appreciation the meaning and beauty of all – of which we too are the expression!
This I do not doubt. And that’s quite enough.
You know, I felt a connection with that blue heron. We were eye-to-eye for a few moments…
