Home
We returned from New England. A return home feels good, since that environment is where I belong.
There I continue to become myself with the support of family, friends, and of nature. I cannot forget nature. The Transcendentalists of New England were onto something enormous, almost too important to be captured by words. Every living thing, from the sub-cellular to the most complex are aspects of the fabric of what is indicated by the term “nature.” Nature is quasi-sacred, something that is stipulated with ambiguity, a nexus of beauty, meaning, and of hazard. There is no obvious boundary, no borderline to what is meant by nature. Ought not everything be included? Is there anything at all to be excluded?
Nature is the ultimate liberal idea.
So, I have returned. There is no doubt that I have a great deal to think about, to put to use, of what I saw and heard in New England.
