…In Need Of Rescue
I am not a fan of White Snake. If it takes only one song to make one a fan, then Here I go Again, seals the deal. I envy musicians. Surely it must feel “god-like” to stand before thousands of people with a guitar, or a keyboard and sing that one song which you have written. The individuals standing, hang on to every word–and you know that for a few minutes at least, lives have been changed.
The essential “aloneness,” the fact that we are “thrown” into the world is captured by this lyric. I think that it was Sartre who said that man/woman is thrown into the world. We find ourselves here, without a reason, without a why. According to Sartre and others, it is up to each of us to construct a reason for our being here. That is as persuasive a take on the human condition as I’ve encountered.
So here is a great song by White Snake. Enjoy! The lyrics are appended after the video.
Here I Go Again
HERE I GO AGAIN
Songwriters: David Coverdale / Bernie Marsden
I don’t know where I’m going
But I sure know where I’ve been
Hanging on the promises
In songs of yesterday
And I’ve made up my mind,
I ain’t wasting no more time
Here I go again
Here I go again
Though I keep searching for an answer,
I never seem to find what I’m looking for
Oh, Lord, I pray
You give me strength to carry on,
‘Cause I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams
Here I go again on my own
Goin’ down the only road I’ve ever known,
Like a hobo I was born to walk alone
But I’ve made up my mind
I ain’t wasting no more time
Just another heart in need of rescue,
Waiting on love’s sweet charity
I am gonna hold on
For the rest of my days,
‘Cause I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams
Here I go again on my own
Goin’ down the only road I’ve ever known,
Like a hobo I was born to walk alone
And I’ve made up my mind
I ain’t wasting no more time
But here I go again,
Here I go again,
Here I go again,
