Look!
Sunday promises to be a fine day. There is sunshine, and spring flowers are in full bloom. Nature is a matter of cause and effect, that is — to the extent that our faculties of perception and our abilities to describe find traction. I am reminded of just how much our naked perception misses, how much is edited out by the synthesis of our minds. You and I must train ourselves, exert considerable effort to “see more” than is first presented by casual observation. Slow down, pay attention… Good advice, and quite difficult. The eye and the mind jitters, stutters about.
Reading the morning’s New York Times email I am reminded of the G-7 meeting of world leaders in Hiroshima. In the Times photo appear four heads of state. One man stands “head and shoulders” above the rest. President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine leads his nation to resist Russian efforts to obliterate the Ukrainian people.
Mention was made in the Times that President Biden will deliver the commencement address at his alma mater, the University of Delaware, on Saturday. Clearly that is conditioned upon the success of late hour negotiations to expand the debt ceiling. Should that fail, nothing else matters for anyone. Not even for the beleaguered Ukrainian armed forces dependent upon material and financial support from the West.
The photo’s were captured in my backyard just yesterday.
