More Miracle And Magic
Walked into Starbucks this morning and over the subdued buzz of the room came the sultry voice of Stevie Nix. It was a love song: Dreams. I retrieved my computer from the case and placed it on the table, my mind (and heart) captured by the lyric of loss. This is a song of grief over a breakup.
“Thunder only happens when it’s raining,” goes the refrain. We only know what we had once it has been lost. A relationship has failed for reasons purposefully concealed, or even hidden from the subjects. Nothing but loneliness remains.
We are social beings.
That is a philosophical principle, bedrock that will not be denied. It is true whether one believes or not, and will assert itself no matter the intensity of opposing emotion. There are aspects of reality that are absolutely true, the ground upon which we all stand, a frame of our existence. Gravity may be expressed in Newtonian terms or in Einsteinian terms of space, time and matter but it’s compulsion may not be denied.
Human nature, by definition, — thrives, reaches it’s apogee in and through love. The alternative is loneliness.
I’ve said enough.
Listen to Stevie sing her great song!
As always the lyric is included after the youtube video.
Dreams
By Fleetwood Mac
Now here you go again
You say you want your freedom
Well, who am I to keep you down?
It’s only right that you should
Play the way you feel it
But listen carefully to the sound
Of your loneliness
Like a heartbeat… drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering what you had
And what you lost…
And what you had…
And what you lost
Thunder only happens when it’s raining
Players only love you when they’re playing
Say… Women… they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean… you’ll know, you’ll know
Now here I go again, I see the crystal visions
I keep my visions to myself
It’s only me
Who wants to wrap around your dreams and…
Have you any dreams you’d like to sell?
Dreams of loneliness…
Like a heartbeat… drives you mad…
In the stillness of remembering what you had…
And what you lost…
And what you had…
And what you lost
Thunder only happens when it’s raining
Players only love you when they’re playing
Women they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you’ll know
Oh, thunder only happens when it’s raining
Players only love you when they’re playing
Say women they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you’ll know, you’ll know
You will know, you’ll know
