Never Mind
Yesterday late afternoon as we returned from a family birthday celebration, a dark towering bank of clouds filled the horizon to the north. From past experience I knew that rain was in those clouds, maybe lightening and a lot of wind. Everyday it is the same. In some direction a threatening cloud fills the horizon. Today the NY Times front page features a story of war games in Bulgaria, and a story of the irrational rise of medication prices. Such are the day to day facts of the world. Yet, other facts are also true.
The birthday celebration for our oldest daughter was as real as the storm cloud, as real as the practice airborne assault in Bulgaria. The afternoon spent together in the warm summer sun, on the patio, with children happily playing on the grass was sublime. A birthday celebration can be a celebration of thanksgiving, a milestone of another year for a whole family. Our lives intersect, –a celebration of one, is a celebration of togetherness for all.

Love is a universe beyond
The daylight spending zone;
As one we more abound
Than two alone.–Wendell Berry, A Small Porch, Sabbath Poems 2015
Change is a face of times passage. The picture on the left was taken one year ago of our grandson enjoying corn. On the right is a picture taken yesterday one year later, an older child, delighting in Natures bounty.
