Plague Journal, Where To From Here?
Trumpism
is an expression of the despair
of impotent old white people
in the age of globalization.
Trumpism –
a desire for supremacy
that ignoramuses reclaim
in the name of their own ignorance,
supremacy of those who are
aggressively competitive
but lack the intellectual means
to achieve. p. 106
The idiocy of protecting
racial identity
is mobilizing the energies of the ignorant
worldwide,
…ignorance is striving
to reproduce itself.
Identity is a ruse. p. 108
Culture…
depends on schools, on books,
on friendships, on the sharing
of resources and technology.
…cultural becoming anticipates
the futures inscribed
in the present of social life.
Identity
is a psycho-political construct
that holds together a social body
that has lost its sense of solidarity. p. 109
A non-authoritarian society…
can be based only on a community of becoming;
not on the community of memory,
but only on the community of experience;
not on the territorial community,
but only on the community of nomadic people
who provisionally meet somewhere,
then disperse
and meet again
if and when they wish. p. 110
Excerpt BREATHING, Chaos and Poetry
By Franco “Bifo” Berardi
Where to from here? – a question in mind for everyone in the final days of the Trump administration, and the November 3rd election of just three weeks ago. The question is asked in the midst of a pandemic which is yet to reach the apex of contagion and death. To continue our life-journey forward, we must assess our present condition, our location in time and space. The words quoted from Berardi are a stark description of the condition of our society, of our neighbors. This condition is like a chronic illness that begs for treatment. The accession of the uber-wealthy, soulless, con-man to the White House, the continuing control of congress by the Party remade in his image– is the effect of a malady inflicting our society since the conclusion of World War II.
Not unlike refugee survivors in wartime, we suffer from time dilation, the disorientation which comes from a persistent threat, the real possibility of random suffering, and premature death. A sober assessment of the socio-political ruins, the ecological damage, the ignorance/confusion which surrounds us is essential. Should we now not dedicate ourselves to practice kindness, to self care, to the project of education, a never ending quest to reduce the miasma of ignorance? The generation to come deserves to inherit the dawning of a community of becoming.
The exigencies of pandemic restrictions have resulted in the opportunity to assist with the education of our grandchildren. They are in pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten. This good work requires that we pay attention to the emotional and intellectual state of the learner as the material is presented. Regarding the teacher-student relationship it is apparent that both are co-learners. The task of learning is a form of adventure, with new things to see, to hear with each days lessons.
The photo is of a joint coloring project with my grand daughter. She and I each took turns selecting a colored marker, to color a section of the fox. The lesson of the day was to learn the letter “x.”
As for a song to assist with today’s segment of our journey, I suggest this one.
Thought means taking time. There are mountains to climb. Heartache and pain are givens. To know what love is will get us through. To take enough time to look around me.
I Want To Know What Love Is
by Foreigner
A little time to think things over
I better read between the lines
In case I need it when I’m olderNow this mountain I must climb
Feels like a world upon my shoulders
Through the clouds I see love shine
It keeps me warm as life grows colder
In my life there’s been heartache and pain
I don’t know if I can face it again
Can’t stop now, I’ve traveled so far
To change this lonely life
I wanna know what love is
I want you to show me
I wanna feel what love is
I know you can show me
I’m gonna take a little time
A little time to look around me
I’ve got nowhere left to hide
It looks like love has finally found me
In my life there’s been heartache and pain
I don’t know if I can face it again
I can’t stop now, I’ve traveled so far
To change this lonely life
I wanna know what love is
I want you to show me
I wanna feel what love is
I know you can show me
I wanna know what love is
I want you to show me
And I wanna feel, I want to feel what love is
And I know, I know you can show me
Let’s talk about love
I wanna know what love is, the love that you feel inside
I want you to show me, and I’m feeling so much love
I wanna feel what love is, no, you just cannot hide
I know you can show me, yeah
I wanna know what love is, let’s talk about love
I want you to show me, I wanna feel it too
I wanna feel what love is, I want to feel it too
And I know and I know, I know you can show me
Show me love is real, yeah
I wanna know what love is…
