Reeling
Wednesday midweek, I reel at the news of another mass shooting. This time the slaughter was visited upon children (19 children and 2 adults) at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. And the reason? Why there was no reason, in the classical definition of reason. A few of the causes: a society awash in guns; one individual in free-fall, over the precipice of despair with nothing-left-to-lose; a Republican party with a fetish in particular for the 2nd amendment of the Constitution; a general malaise, the wide spread sense that humanity white-knuckled, careens down a mountainside, each turn (without guardrails) approaches with increasing velocity, etc. etc.
The score so far.

What is going to change? Nothing.
Nevertheless
vegetation thrives by light and heat of the angle of springtime sun. We found a nest of newborn rabbits yesterday in Braeburn Park, next to the creek. Nature, the earth, with cycles of the seasons, of water evaporation-condensation-rainfall, of birth-development-maturation-death present a method of ordering our world, of holding reality in the mind. Our ancestors, – your grandparents, great grandparents, recognized that life is flow, with bite and sweet gravity.
The photographs were captured yesterday in the backyard.
