Sunday And The Sun Comes Like A God
Spring in the mid-west is unsettled. Every day one gets to draw blind, a card from the deck. One turns over the card to find one has drawn an Ace or the Joker. I remember a Memorial Day many years ago at Great Lakes Drag Strip. The afternoon was raw. I shivered, wrapped in a blanket. The high performance cars did not want to run. A motor built for raw power likes heat, lots of heat.
Today the sun rises bright, casting a blinding reflection off of damp asphalt in the Starbucks parking lot. The last two days were jacket-weather, with intermittent rain. But now the gloom is dispelled by magnificent sunlight.
Gloom comes and goes. Earlier this morning, I glimpsed a video clip of the President bowing to the Saudi potentate. Money always pays deference to money. The image was enough to show which of the two individuals had the larger pile of money. Some things are invariable, from the beginning of history until the present. This fealty is one of the givens of history. No need to click on the image for a viewing. A glance told the whole story.
Closer to home I feel sorrow for my sister, who is two years younger than I. She lives in a assisted living facility. A phone conversation with her yesterday left me with the impression that she almost certainly will lose part of her foot due to diabetic neuropathy. Diabetes is a progressive disease. The cause is unclear and before the modern era the disease was fatal within months. Neuropathy is a term for damage occurring to the nerves and blood supply due to high glucose levels in the blood. I can do little more for her than to listen, and pray for her. Gloom.
But the sun rises gloriously this morning piercing the clouds, causing the wet surface of parking lot and plants to glow with light and warmth. The night is over.

Sleep baby sleep
Now that the night is over
And the sun comes like a god
Into our room
All perfect light and promisesGotta hold on you
A new sensation
A new sensation
Right now
Gonna take you over
A new sensation
A new sensationDream baby dream
Of all that’s come and going
And you will find out
In the end
There really is
There really is no differenceCry baby cry
When you’ve got to get it out
I’ll be your shoulder
You can tell me all
Don’t keep it in ya
Well that’s the reason why I’m here
