Times Are A-Changin
Wow! What a Tuesday evening at Beans & Leaves. The house was full and we commenced to “do philosophy”
sparked by the lyrics of Bob Dylan. Dylan is iconic of a time, and of a generation. We all pass, but our work lives on if we are lucky.
Peter, a serious fan of Dylan’s work reminded us of a lyric line referencing Burgundy. Thus encouraged, libation was distributed from an ample jug.
A evening of conversing, ideas that are inscribed into many of our lives, demanded a first hand experience of the music. Osvaldo and Jeff accommodated.
So now as I’m leavin’
I’m weary as Hell
The confusion I’m feelin’Ain’t no tongue can tell
The words fill my head
And fall to the floor
If God’s on our side
He’ll stop the next war
– With God On Our Side
It would be unaccountably weird to mention our evening without hearing from the master, Bob Dylan himself. Music is a visceral experience, and one can talk meaningfully only after having the experience.
So here is a youtube URL that will allow you to hear and ponder for yourself Dylan’s performance of the song written in 1964, the third track on his album, The Times They Are A-Changin.

Long live music, and the Songsmiths. Their good work keeps the rest of us alive.
