Welcome To The Show
Perhaps, we can discover
a realm where originality
is again possible
as parodists of history
and buffoons of God.
Beyond Good and Evil, by Friedrich Nietzsche, aphorism 223
I am curious about this quote which is found in the essay by Michel Foucault, Nietzsche, Genealogy, History. History, the stories that we tell are compared to a masquerade party. Foucault, echoing Nietzsche advises us to push this masquerade to the limit. Turn loose your imagination to feel and wear the mask of Caesar, Jesus, Dionysus, Joan of Arc, Abraham Lincoln, Joseph Stalin, John Kennedy, etc., to un-realize history… The past was not made by “monumental” personalities who were the instruments of providence.
History was and is – like a carnival.
Get over ourselves!
We need a song do we not, to get us through this day. What else but The Grand Illusion by Styx.
