Who Ya Gonna Believe….
I spent the day in Lincoln Square, Chicago yesterday. A Friend offered to discuss a business startup concept. I jumped at the opportunity. One never knows. Something important and beneficial might be born from a give and take of ideas, conceiving of experimental steps, to discover whether a vision does in fact address the needs of individuals living together in a particular place. It depends on many things and is never simple. The difficulty has to do with seeing what is real. That is why an exchange of ideas, feedback is so important. Our minds run in customary channels. We tend not to believe what is right before our eyes. Often the presence of another, and the expression of what the other perceives is enough to shift ones point of view, just enough, to glimpse the truth.
….Which brings me to politics. In the morning NPR report of the news, I was told of an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal by soon-to-be Supreme Court Justice, Brett Kavanaugh. The substance of his opinion piece was an assertion that he will be an impartial judge. Never mind his partisan, conspiracy-minded tirade of attack before Senate Judiciary Committee—-.
Again this proclamation of fair-mindedness by the candidate on the eve of the Senate cloture vote is for the consumption of the general public. The Trump Party wants this guy on the court, no matter what he may have done, or denies doing under oath. “The deal” was done before the Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing began.
I was reminded of a unforgettable line from a movie title that I am unable to recall. Maybe it’s a De Niro quote?
Well, who ya gonna believe me or your own eyes?
Never mind the unhinged, partisan individual that you saw before the Senate Judiciary Committee. “Who ya gonna believe?”
The truth is hard to come by.
