concertA highlight of the trip to Detroit was a concert at the DTE Energy Music theater, one of the foremost venues in the country.  We had lawn seating for three storied Rock N Roll bands, Cheap Trick, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and Heart.  All have been inducted into the Rock N Roll hall of fame.  Yes it was loud.

I was reminded of a statue of a young Greek male at the concert2Detroit Institute of the Arts who looked to be about nine years old.  The kid had a live fowl in one hand, and a small vessel containing liquid in the other.  He was on his way to offer sacrifice to one of the pantheon of gods revered by his people.  And so was I, with 15,000 others, a sold out house, here to participate in the liturgy of tune and lyric, paying homage to the pain and the pleasure of being alive.

Joan Jett decided for her curtain call to cover a song made popular by Sly and the Family Stone.  Everyday People.  A more appropriate song could not have been chosen.

Enjoy the youtube version here.
