Plague Journal, Change – It Had To Come

Summer is waning.  In our child-like fantasy, we’d like endless summer.  Deceiving ourselves, we forget that in time we’d be satiated with the beauty, the days of amusement and play.  Boredom would overtake us soon enough.

I entertained these thoughts yesterday while enjoying a “just right” lunch on the patio of the Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington.  It was an idyllic afternoon, with cloud filtered sunlight.  A friend and I talked of old times.  We reminisced about the road trips, places, especially the race tracks.  Both of us miss the aroma of burnt rubber, with a hint of motor oil rising from a hot track surface.

However things are as the should be.  Both of us are aging.  Each day brings a quotient of reminders that one is mortal.  We are blessed with good fortune to live where we do.  I hope that no one seriously complains about living in Barrington or in Batavia.  Life is good.  Aging cannot be denied, and will be accepted if with difficulty.

For your inspection, and enjoyment the photographs were taken in the backyard over the last forty eight hours.  The cucumber is one of the largest to come from the garden.  The knife measures eight inches, to give an idea of the size of the cucumber.

And what is life without music?

Stay With Me”
by Sam Smith, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty

Guess it’s true, I’m not good at a one-night stand
But I still need love ’cause I’m just a man
These nights never seem to go to plan
I don’t want you to leave, will you hold my hand?

Oh, won’t you stay with me?
‘Cause you’re all I need
This ain’t love, it’s clear to see
But, darling, stay with me

Why am I so emotional?
No, it’s not a good look, gain some self-control
And deep down I know this never works
But you can lay with me so it doesn’t hurt

Oh, won’t you stay with me?
‘Cause you’re all I need
This ain’t love, it’s clear to see
But, darling, stay with me

Oh, won’t you stay with me?
‘Cause you’re all I need
This ain’t love, it’s clear to see
But, darling, stay with me

Oh, won’t you stay with me?
‘Cause you’re all I need
This ain’t love, it’s clear to see
But, darling, stay with me
