This Feeling
Saturday morning at a crowded Starbucks. What is to be done? Concentrate, focus upon the task at hand? I mean, the search for words, to wait until sensations, the reciprocal response of the body to a world sparks thought, a response…
This space, the remodeled corner of 3rd and State in Geneva expresses the experience, the engineering expertise, of companies contracted to realize the goals of Starbucks. Starbucks is a global, public-traded corporation. What is this feeling, within this renovated space, moving baristas behind the counter, customers, entering, shifting about, waiting and leaving? Is this friction, a feeling of contradiction, the antimony of efficiency verses the conviviality of a community of value? No doubt this is what I feel now…
I feel nostalgic for the old space.
Friction, heat, difference… Others have mentioned, and written about this peculiarity of life.
This, this carrier-wave of every living thing is the assurance – I am alive!
If you are reading this, consider the discomfort, dissonance, the sensuality and friction in your life…
Is it not good to be alive? Don’t look back!
Here is a great song to hold in heart, You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet by Bachman-Turner Overdrive.
