Let It Come
Friday afternoon. I took the malaise of today to a meeting this morning. One does what one must, feelings aside.
To this felt heaviness, as if gravity were double or tripled, even the movements of the mind seemed lethargic, – perhaps you too find it impossible be certain of the cause(s) of such a funk? I heard a snippet of news that the Trump administration looks to revoke the tax exempt status of institutions of higher education when evidence is found that the institutions demonstrated favor to people of color. A dispiriting change in official policy as far as I am concerned.
My ancestors immigrated here from elsewhere, and they needed help. Everyone needs help at some point in life. Whether in the form of a social safety net for the aged who are no longer able to work, or low interest government guaranteed loans for the young who are candidates for higher education. The point is especially true if you are an African-American, the descendant of individuals transported here generations ago and made to work in Southern cotton fields, or rice plantations. Or perhaps your ancestor was directed to carry bricks for constructing the White House.
In any case, Federal policy has changed, universities will be penalized for helping those not Caucasian.
I thought that sparked my funk. Perhaps recovery from the non-invasive heart procedure of Tuesday is a factor? I cannot tell.
It doesn’t matter. Would certain knowledge make a difference? It wouldn’t.
One thing alone matters. To say it plan: staying the course.
This tune by Alabama Shakes sings it plain. I Feel Hope Coming by Alabama Shakes.
