EVERY ANGEL IS TERRIFYING

EVERY ANGEL IS TERRIFYING

Duino Elegies–Ranier Maria Rilke

Well, Friday

Well, Friday

Friday, another Friday but still a day in time (an artificial reckoning)
which unfolds as a scroll, to disclose once only
hellos and good-bys, flavors in a cup,
— sensations contained in cups.

To live is to practice, to try and try, once again
affirming, recognizing the beauty and asymmetry
of my time and place.

Kind and generous
baristas behind the counter
wearing a green or a black apron.

Motherfuckers too are about,
Musk, Trump, Vance
and their Republican hangers-on.

In addition to Gary Snyder’s book,
I am learning about Haiku, a Japanese poetic form
The Essential Haiku, Versions of Basho, Buson, & Issa
edited by Robert Hall.
Snyder mentioned the book.
I obtained a used copy.
