Earth Killer

Earth Killer

June 1, 2017 the President of the United States withdraws from the Paris Accord on Climate Change.

  • The rise in sea level accelerates.
  • The ice pack at both poles melts at an increasing rate.
  • Weather events increase in severity.
  • Species extinction continues.
  • Hotter more acidic oceans.
  • Famine.
  • Forests succumb to drought and disease.

I awakened this morning and a prayer was the first element of my conscious thought.  “Help me to accept this day as a gift.  Help me to be grateful.”

Since this blog often will include song lyrics, here is my contribution for today. Perhaps you have already used them in a previous blog, but these are worth reconsidering based on the current state of world affairs:

When I was born, I shamed the dawn
    I saw the angels cry
I raised my arms and made the stars tremble in the sky
When I sang, the choirs were humbled
When I danced, the mountains crumbled
I chased the waves back into the sea

I feasted on the fatted calf, I drank whole cities dry
I made the devil dance for me, I spat into his eye
I said, “So long Jack, we hardly knew you
    Here’s to hell, and hallelujah
Take this rock and shake it ’til it bleeds”

’cause these are dark days indeed
    These are dark days indeed
These are, dark days, dark days
    These are dark days indeed

We don’t know who put this cup of life into our hands
But when we go, our bones will bake on the burning sands
’cause we walk but once among the living
So no regrets, and no forgiving
It’s hard to dance when you’re down upon your knees

’cause these are dark days indeed
    These are dark days indeed
These are, dark days, dark days
    These are dark days indeed

What a dark paean to humanity. I am glad that is not the only truth to be told about humanities sojourn. I like it though, for the penetrating description of these times,

“Take this rock and shake it ’til it bleeds”
