EVERY ANGEL IS TERRIFYING

EVERY ANGEL IS TERRIFYING

Duino Elegies–Ranier Maria Rilke

Gonna Leave You Here

Gonna Leave You Here

Heard this tune played on the radio yesterday,  I’ve heard it many times before.  This time it rocked me, “knocked me out”.  That’s an expression of the impact of a tune and lyric on my sense of space and time.  Music can do that.  It’s a matter of serendipity of timing: the right time and right place.

Things could have been radically different for me at this point in my life.  I am married to a wonderful woman who I met in college.  We were married in Japan. We were both 21.  We are now 69, and continue to enjoy one another’s company.

This song is a reminder that things could have been really, really different.  I do not believe that I can take any credit for my good fortune.  I give thanks.
