Has The Worm Turned?
In fairy tales the worm is a common term for dragon. What a relief when the worm turns and your village and fields are not scorched by the beast.
The day after the inauguration, women took to the streets to protest the stated intentions of the newly elected president of the United States to obstruct their human rights. From a distance the thousands marching in Chicago resembled a giant moving dragon. Naturally “all this protesting” does not sit well with many males of a older generation. What are these meek and docile creatures protesting about? Women with confidence taking power. I’ve been asked more than once to explain the meaning of the march, and to justify what good “they” expect to do.
To aid this quest for illumination I was delighted to read a thought experiment conceived by a friend who agreed to allow me to use his words. So just imagine that you are a conservative minded Trump supporter. If you are, this experiment will be easy. No imagination needed.
Okay folks, new Tact. Let’s turn the table.
To my very good friends, on the Right: What would it take (political or social) to get you off your butts and into the streets? Or is there anything that could motivate you to act in such a self-serving and potentially seditious way? What would put your knickers in a knot enough to grab a piece of cardboard and a marking pen to visibly show your support or contempt for an issue? Since I’m not certain you will take this bait, I’m offering, for the elucidation and entertainment of our vast readership, a few potential scenarios. I hope, gentle reader, you will be able to add to this list and enlighten those of us who hold opposing views. Thank you for your kind consideration.
1. BIG government raises taxes to a minimum of 45% of gross income allowing for quality education of all including those slacker poor people and takes us to a single payer affordable healthcare plan. YIKES, socialism!
2. We tell NATO countries that we’ll foot the bill for the entire kit and caboodle.
3. We tell the United Nations we will abide by and support whatever decision is made within its hallowed halls.
4. All Muslim American citizens are afforded equal rights and protection under the law [oops, that’s already in place. Sorry.]
5. [And this is the really YUGE one] The Second Amendment is repealed and all guns are henceforth verboten.
6. All white males over the age of 22 must be castrated [I might join in this protest as well – at least there’s something we can agree on.]
7. The Equal Rights Amendment is passed into law.
8. [add your grievance here]
