Last Chance?

Last Chance?

After out patient surgery earlier in the day our daughter was resting. She chose The Matrix film as entertainment.  We waited for the medication to arrive from Walgreens and refreshed our memories of this great film from 1999.  There are many lines of dialog from the characters Morpheus, Neo, and Trinity that are as flint striking steel, creating explosive lines of inquiry, sparks seeking dry tinder to flame.

This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill – you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.   — Morpheus

Is this our last chance?  Or has the last chance already passed us up?  The options are stark, disruptive, with life shattering  consequences.  Have too many of us, maybe even most of us selected the blue pill?  Has the story already ended?  Do we want to believe whatever we fancy?  Such as climate catastrophe is a hoax manufactured by liberals; or that the global network of capitalist corporations in league with strong-man-demagogues are taking care of things just fine?  That we will continue to wake up in our 1st world, comfortable beds, blissful in the best of all worlds until……..

There is the red pill.  Take the red pill.   See the Wonderland of lies, self dealing, the incestuous relationship between politics and money, how deep the rabbit-hole goes…..

I intend to revisit The Matrix in its entirety.  I am convinced that we must identify a Neo, an individual extraordinarily gifted, skilled at fighting against overwhelming odds, with requisite innocence and strength of will to give his/her life for the survival of humanity.  Leadership is a sine qua non for survival.

Neo where are you?
