Male Fantasy

Male Fantasy

The fundamental male fantasy
of the woman
is not her seductive appearance,
but the idea,
that the dazzling appearance
conceals
some imponderable
mystery.

-Jacques Lacan

There is something tragic, simultaneously sad and delicious with respect to Lacan’s quote. How could this possibly be denied? The male – female dynamic-attraction is as old as Helen of Troy. Perhaps you remember Helen, according to Homer her face is said to have launched a thousand ships. The “moth to flame” seduction has been viewed from many points of view. Darwin observed the utility for procreation, and Freud described a death drive. That concealed “it” just beyond my reach…

Desire, to quest for that “thing” that we never are quite able to achieve/possess/fulfill is what makes us human. Here is a well known tune where Mick gives some good advice!
