Not Much

Not Much

I have little to say this morning.

Chicago has a new Mayor.  Much is made in the press about the first female black person to be elected Mayor, Lori Lightfoot.  What is left unsaid, the thundering silence from the press reports is that it matters little who is elected, their racial heritage or their gender.

What matters, really matters, is the indebtedness of the city to the bond holders, and the anticipated short fall to come with respect to pension obligations.  I do not expect the unions to become more reasonable as if they were waiting for the first black female to be elected to office.

The real power that will shape public policy can be traced to the lenders, the credit houses owned jointly by a few “one percenters” whose prosperity and influence is rooted in their business.

“Capital tilts against those without it.”*

I congratulate her though.  She strikes me as an intelligent, well spoken, well-meaning individual.

Another day of spring dawns sun-bright, beautiful.  May I notice the detail, the concealed beauty, profligate, near at hand.
