Plague Journal, Appetite For Destruction

Reading this morning’s The Daily update of stories in the New York Times, I learned more detail about the Presidents attempts to de-fund and degrade the Post Office.  The Post Office is one of the venerable institutions of the government that has served many generations of Americans well.  The Presidents appointed Postmaster General, one of his major donors, has taken measures to truncate overtime of employees and has issued orders to slow down mail delivery.  The refusal of funding coincides with the President’s loathing of mail-in voting, with a view to his re-election bid in November.  He is haunted by the prospect of losing a second term, believing that suppressing the vote-by-mail is key to an election victory.  The upshot, — the rest of us standby to watch one of our most reliable, most valuable institutions wrecked.

Yes, the title tagline for this mornings post is the title of the Guns N’ Roses 1987 album, Appetite For Destruction.  Sweet Child O’ Mine from the album was a hit single.  It is about a short lived marriage which devolved an abusive relationship.  The tune, with the brooding, slashing guitar riffs, expresses the relationship between our country and Donald Trump, the President.

I’ve featured the tune before.  It communicates on many levels.

I remember Donald J. Trump, with his corporate jet parked in the background, overture of a celebrity smile, reminder of “everything … as fresh as the bright blue sky.”

We now pray for a place “for the thunder and the rain to quietly pass us by”

Ohh where do we go now?

The lyric tails off with the agonized question.  Just listen…
