Plague Journal, Mother’s Day II

Both of us, starting out a lifetime ago.

Another Mother’s Day recedes in the rear view mirror.  I appreciate this day of remembrance more with each year that passes.  It is almost 11PM.  Before turning in for the evening I felt the need to state that my life is enriched each time that I have opportunity to honor the females in my life.  I owe my life to those who came before me in my family, especially my mother.  My wife deserves credit for much of the necessary nurture received by our three children.  All three are adults now, and two of them have children of their own.  I am humbled and grateful for the sacrifice that others, and especially mothers make to cultivate kind and responsible adults.  That does not happen by accident.  Everything is taught and received by learning.

So in tribute to Laura, my best friend, the love of my life I offer this well known pop song about the iconic actress Bette Davis.  As indicated by the lyrics, like Bette Davis, Laura’s style is incomparable.

Bette Davis Eyes

By Kim Carnes

Her hair is Harlow gold
Her lips sweet surprise
Her hands are never cold
She’s got Bette Davis eyes
She’ll turn the music on you
You won’t have to think twice
She’s pure as New York snow
She got Bette Davis eyes

And she’ll tease you
She’ll unease you
All the better just to please you
She’s precocious, and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
She got Greta Garbo’s standoff sighs
She’s got Bette Davis eyes

She’ll let you take her home
It whets her appetite
She’ll lay you on the throne
She got Bette Davis eyes
She’ll take a tumble on you
Roll you like you were dice
Until you come out blue
She’s got Bette Davis eyes

She’ll expose you, when she snows you
Off your feet with the crumbs she throws you
She’s ferocious, and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
All the boys think she’s a spy
She’s got Bette Davis eyes

And she’ll tease you
She’ll unease you
All the better just to please you
She’s precocious, and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
All the boys think she’s a spy
She’s got Bette Davis eyes

She’ll tease you
She’ll unease you
Just to please you
She’s got Bette Davis eyes
She’ll expose you
When she snows you
She knows you
She’s got Bette Davis eyes

Lyrics composed by Jackie De Shannon, Donna T Weiss
