EVERY ANGEL IS TERRIFYING

Destroyer, Breaker of Values Into Pieces

Destroyer, Breaker of Values Into Pieces

Listen carefully now, you enlightened ones!
Weigh seriously, whether I have discerned the heart of life itself,
the very roots of its heart!

Wherever I found a living thing,
there found I Will-to-Power;
and even in the will of the servant
I found the will to be master.
The weaker is to serve the stronger
— so he/she persuades she
her will who would be master over a still weaker one.

One delight alone
she is unwilling to forego.

And as the lesser surrenders himself to the greater
that he may have satisfaction and power over the least of all,
so does even the greatest surrender himself,
and stakes – life, for the sake of power.
It is the surrender of the greatest to run risk and danger,
and play dice for death.

And where there is sacrifice and service
and love-glances,
there also is the will to be master.

Life herself whispered this to me:
“Behold,” she said,
“I am that which must ever surpass itself.”

Of course, you call it will-to-procreation,
or impulse towards a goal, towards the higher, remoter, more manifold:
but all amounts to one and the
same secret.
I would rather retreat into silence
than disown this one thing;
and truly, where there is succumbing and a falling leaf,
behold, there
Life sacrifices itself for power!

That I have to be
struggle,
and becoming,
and purpose,
and cross-purpose
– ah, he who intuits my will,
also grasps on what crooked
paths it has to tread!

Whatever I create, and however much I love it,
— soon I must be opposed to it,
and to my love as well:
so wills my will.

Even you too, perceptive one,
are a mere path, a stepping-stone of my will:
truly, my Will to Power
leverages your Will to Truth!

And she who has to be a creator in good and evil
— truly, she has first to be a destroyer,
a breaker of values into pieces…

Many a house is still to be built!

-Thus spoke Zarathustra.

Thus Spake Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche, trans. by Thomas Common Part II, Self-surpassing, page 112

Little to say on this haze-painted Saturday morning. Wildfire smoke from Canada suggesting the destruction of climate warming, colors our mid-western sky. Destruction, demolition of what we assumed to be durable, even the most venerable of American institutions is underway. Certainly this is terrifying, terrible and more people than we know will be hurt, even to die prematurely. On the other hand, the earth, nature itself, and life itself is re-balancing. Shuffling the deck, a throw of the dice…

Ground always needs to be cleared, making room for a newer truth, contemporary forms of life, relationship styles that are productive, reciprocal, procreative.

Your turn to throw!

Perhaps you can guess the tune-of-choice for today!  All Along The Watchtower performed by Jimmy Hendricks. Thanks to Bob Dylan for such prophetic lyrics!
