In Play
Whoever needs
something other than a puppet
is not part of this community.
to play: to put oneself in play, to surpass the given in play,
the content: only what is favorable to the game.
Perhaps also on
the mad philosopher:
community?
or mystic?
-excerpt On Nietzsche Notes by Georges Bataille p. 299
Went to an opening last night at WaterStreet Studios in Batavia. The show was entitled Digitalism. Much of the work were images of the artist(s) produced with digital tools. The images were impressive with intense color contrasts and radical distortion of the facial form.
Digital images seem inconceivable prior to introduction of digital tools. The imagination is powerful, and yet everything has to come from something does it not? Photoshop is a pivot point of possibility. I wonder that we are at a bare inception of describing how our imaginations work…
I contemplated the art. I would like to have questioned the artist as to his intentions. But I chose not to interrupt ongoing conversations. The gallery was crowded.
This morning I awakened convinced that today was Sunday. After some ten minutes here at Starbucks, I awakened again — to be in agreement with everyone else.
Today is Saturday!
How much is in play? Why, everything!

This is David Hauptschein. Thanks for posting about the “Digitalism” show, but you are incorrect in categorizing my work as being AI-generated. In fact I am using no AI whatsoever in the creation of my pictures. They are digitally altered original photographs, using the “unintelligent” tools that Photoshop makes accressible to everyone.
David, I stand corrected. Wish that I had been able to speak with you. Clearly using the Photoshop palate, your images must entail much time and work.
