Simultaneous Realities

Simultaneous Realities

Wednesday, late afternoon, I am thinking about multiple realities. I mean the singular fact, – “the real” is co-dependent upon the mind!

What reality do you prefer? There is no single univocal, granite-like “real” no matter how comforting this ancient intuition has been for us.

What’s real – is a feature of the synthetic processing of externalities impacting our bodies. Photons, pressure waves, molecules signaling nourishment either aromatic or flavor. Even the scrape of an edged broken-branch that draws blood. Yes, that’s it. Body and mind jointly  synthesize what we call “a world”. No definite division between mind/body, just this ongoing bent to synthesize, make “sense” of everything.

And there are multiple realities, stories stitched-up by our minds, the meanings of experience. If you should have a gift for mathematics, perhaps you’ve been fortunate to have learned the languages of math and the procedures of physics, or of biology, or of chemistry – thereby to present a scientific story of the world… I am not gifted in math.  I’ll save that longer story for another time.

Perhaps you are entranced by form and color, and fortune has favored you with a background in art, perhaps a graphic artist, or film… There are many instruments. There are modes of expression, forms which may reveal “a truth”, mediums of communication.

Realities – Europe is already experiencing dangerous late-summer heat, in mid spring. Two wild fires were burning in LA county yesterday. Two tanks of methyl methacrylate that could explode in LA county have been widely reported. 40,000 people have been evacuated.

Poppy

Realities, alongside blue skies, singing birds and a first poppy to bloom in the semi-wild portion of the back yard. More poppies are soon to come.

So, what is to be done? A priority is to initiate, cultivate, shore up relationships with others who are at hand, available for a face to face word of greeting, for encounters of substance. Those mundane exchanges are truly acts of love. “Love will keep us alive” is no throw-away phrase. It is the nexus of the matter. Moreover love is tangential to tingly/warm feelings. Do what you can to acknowledge someone else. Your feeling state may not improve, – but you did what is right.

Enough!

P.S. We are among friends.

Donald Trump’s approval rating is at 37%. This is considered very low. But it also means that 1/3 of our nation continues to believe in their version of reality: That this con-artist, criminal, psychopathic idiot is doing a good job. That’s 100 million people. They are Americans who live in this country, seeing the same things (for the most part) that we see. Somehow creating an alternate reality where DJT is akin to a god.

Those who have a very different take on reality cannot fathom how this is possible. How the minds of our fellow humans can be so incredibly blind to the destruction of our nation, of our way of life, of our democracy, and of our planet. And yet here we are. Strapped into a ride we did not choose to partake in. A ride that turns us inside out and upside down with no end in sight.

And so we turn to the reality of the poppy and of our hands in the dirt with the intent of distracting ourselves from the dystopian nightmare that engulfs every fiber of the fabric of our culture.

Strictly speaking, maybe no one signed up for this.

As perverse as it sounds, DJT had no choice at all as to his birth family, and his manner of being raised as a child. As an adult he is a morally monstrous being, without a scintilla of care about anyone else. Whether or not blame can be assigned, still he is a wrecking ball that will destroy us if on one of us is not strong enough to resist him in a decisive way.
