The Last Generation

The Last Generation

Today, is the first day of spring.  I am ready for change to a season of transformation.  Soon with gradually warming days grass will become green and tiny buds will appear on the trees.  Green buttercup stalks are already emerging, piercing the brown and gray of the leaf strewn flower beds.

The Tina Turner Musical at the Nederlander Theater is a story of survival, the brave confrontation of abuse, then emerging to restart a career as a solo artist.  This song by Tina Turner was a signature of the 1985 film, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, starring Mel Gibson and Tina Turner.

In this music video Turner is accompanied by a children’s choir and Tim Cappello, her tour saxophonist, percussionist and keyboardist at the time. The music video received an MTV Video Music Award nomination for Best Female Video. – Wikipedia

Do not these lyrics comprise a thought experiment?  What if the children living today could form a choir, speaking with the hindsight of human history…  We do not need yet another hero!  No hero can become a messiah achieving what is our responsibility: to learn love and compassion for one another.

We do not need anyone to show us the way home.  We are already home.  This earth is home.  To live with love and compassion is to roll the dice of our one life, — as if an “all or nothing” bet!

Give it all or nothing…

We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)

By Tina Turner

Out of the ruins
Out from the wreckage
Can’t make the same mistake this time
We are the children
The last generation
We are the ones they left behind

And I wonder when we are ever gonna change
Living under the fear ’til nothing else remains

We don’t need another hero
We don’t need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond
The thunderdome

Looking for something
We can rely on
There’s gotta be something better out there
Love and compassion
Their day is coming
All else are castles built in the air

And I wonder when we are ever gonna change
Living under the fear ’til nothing else remains

All the children say
We don’t need another hero
We don’t need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond
The thunderdome

So what do we do with our lives
We leave only a mark
Will our story shine like a light
Or end in the dark
Give it all or nothing

We don’t need another hero
We don’t need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond
The thunderdome

Lyrics by Terry Britten
