Women around the world marched.

It is clear to me why women would march in the United States.  Trumps statements, his campaign promises and behavior would reasonably alarm any American who is not a Trump follower, who cares about the survival of the planet, human rights, and prosperity based upon trade with other nations.  I am alarmed.  I was more than willing to join others in Chicago on January the 21st to bear witness to the darkness that has risen, promising to engulf us in a

hurricane of blind will.  It’s not just the painful narcissism of the president.  Equally alarming are the people surrounding him, his cabinet, his advisors.

One term comes to mind to describe the movement that faces us.  American neofascism.  That is how this feels in my gut, in my pre-articulate primal sense of the texture of things.  Perhaps this is what brings women in the population centers around the world onto the streets.

To satisfy my own troubled spirit I did a brief search for a definition of neofascism.  Here are a number of elements that I think

apply to our situation:  ultra nationalism. populism, anti immigration, nativism, anti-socialism, and opposition to liberal democracy.

Females by nature, who are the bearers of life, would be instinctively attuned to such a ominous portent in the election of Donald Trump.  There is an inexorable dimension to this very dark cloud.  It has been rising for some time, at least for the eight years of the Obama

administration.

This is a transitional time for our country, as were the 60s.  It seems that a devastating hurricane is brewing.  The days ahead will be tumultuous.  We cannot stand down for those who have “sold their souls to the devil” by supporting Trump for whatever reason.  Women, men and children around the world took to the streets to resist his policies to deny our freedoms and a livable future for our children.
